Nixon Peabody recruits associates from a variety of law schools. The firm looks for candidates with work experience and a personality that enables them to fit among collegial and respectful colleagues. Social events are well-attended, and interactions are friendly. Partners are approachable, helpful, and engaged in associate development, maintaining open-door policies and serving as willing mentors. Associates benefit from regular practice group trainings, CLEs, webinars, and workshops. A standardized onboarding process and planned group-wide meetings help laterals integrate into the firm. Lean staffing means that associates receive challenging assignments and exposure to the full scope of transactions, and junior associates can expect to engage in extensive client interaction. Nixon Peabody imposes a billable requirement of 1,850 hours, and compensation is below the BigLaw standard but competitive given the work hours required. Associates describe the firm’s technology as cutting-edge, saying that it supports the workplace flexibility offered by the firms. Wellness initiatives include free counseling sessions, a wellness stipend, and a general emphasis on attorney well-being. Pro bono work is supported through service weeks, quarterly competitions with financial incentives, and 60 hours per year that count as billable.
