Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Paul Hastings believes strongly in the power of teamwork and wants to hire associates with this team-oriented approach to work and professional success. To that end, although the firm wants to see top credentials, associates appreciate the firm’s interest in less-traditional candidates who bring unique talent to the table. Lateral hiring is a clear objective of the firm’s recruiting strategy. Associates are completely satisfied with the firm’s friendly, social-but-not-too-social environment. In general, partners are highly invested in associate development and success, and both the formal and informal mentorship opportunities are extensive, particularly for junior associates. The hours are standard for the industry, but the firm offers meaningful flexibility in work arrangements, which associates suggest helps maintain a sense of work-life balance. Associates are fully satisfied with the firm’s compensation package, which always matches the market. A heavy workload is mitigated by the exciting and advanced nature of the work, and associates are given great responsibility early and exposed to highly substantive work from day one. Paul Hastings has pushed to innovate in recent years, and associates have noticed improvements in the firm’s technology offerings and support. Wellness initiatives have been a focus, but are considered impractical due to the demanding hours of BigLaw work. 100 hours of pro bono are given billable credit, and associates can choose from many pro bono opportunities. Career prospects are excellent for Paul Hastings associates, who view partnership as attainable and exit opportunities as attractive.
