When hiring, Polsinelli looks for positive, team-oriented candidates with strong academic credentials. Associates describe the firm’s culture as “Midwest nice,” characterized by friendliness and respect among partners, associates, and staff. Attorneys participate in well-attended firm-sponsored events, and many also choose to participate in organic events. Associates are typically in the office four days per week. Partners are approachable. They value and respect associates and care about associate development. The quality and quantity of formal training vary by practice group, but associates receive a partner mentor when they join, and after their fourth year, they select another mentor as part of the Polsinelli Path program, which is designed to help them work toward their long-term career goals. The objective may include making partnership, as associates say that making both equity and non-equity partnership is realistic. Counsel roles are also available, and the firm will connect attorneys who want to leave to in-house roles with clients. The firm has a billable hour requirement of 1,900 for attorneys’ first three years; after that, they can choose between a 1,800-hour track and a 2,000-hour track. Compensation depends on geographic location and tenure, with attorneys in major markets earning salaries at the top of the market for their first three years. Afterward, compensation is a black box, but the firm does provide origination credits to associates. Perks include access to a growing number of AI tools with training and a paid sabbatical after five years with the firm.
