Proskauer Rose’s long and distinguished history is a draw for associates, as is its reputation for stellar work in a plethora of practice areas. Candidates with strong grades from good law schools get looks in the hiring process, as do people with work experience, good work ethic, and personality. Office settings are professional, friendly, and collaborative, while people respect personal boundaries and personal time. Partners value associates and care about their personal well-being and professional growth. Associates benefit from plentiful formal trainings and hands-on guidance from partners and senior associates. Lateral hires are oriented and given work just like associates are, and are expected as well to take ownership of challenging work assignments. A staffing coordinator tries to distribute tasks evenly, but experience and pre-existing relationships impact how some are assigned. Proskauer Rose does not impose a strict billable hour requirement, though 1,900 hours is expected, and there is plenty of work to go around. Compensation matches the market, including bonuses that are not tied to hours billed. Firm technology is perhaps average and could be improved, so thankfully the IT staff is helpful. The firm supports wellness initiatives, but could promote them better and give associates some time to utilize them. Similarly, Proskauer Rose encourages pro bono work, with a soft minimum requirement of 50 hours and successes celebrated firmwide. Affinity groups, mentorships, recruiting efforts, and support systems all make associates feel that the firm cares about and has made progress with diversity. Career prospects for associates are excellent, from making partner to being promoted to counsel, going in-house, or lateraling to another firm.
