Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Proskauer looks at candidates from a variety of schools and evaluates candidates for evidence of autonomy, interpersonal skills, and leadership and collaboration experience. Hires blend in with professional, curious, and easygoing colleagues. The firm offers opportunities for firm-sponsored socialization, but participation is not required. Attorneys at Proskauer work from the office four days per week, and partners maintain an open-door policy so associates can stop by and ask questions about specific deals. A centralized staffing system is used for assigning work. Partners speak openly to associates about their career prospects and the partnership path. Each associate receives an assigned mentor; however, many find the informal mentoring relationships they build with their coworkers more valuable than formal mentorship. The firm also offers extensive training, with first-year associates able to count training and shadowing as billable hours with no cap. The firm mandates 2,000 hours per year, with at least 1,800 development hours required (including client billable, up to 100 pro bono, and up to 100 shadowing hours) and any combination of engagement hours (e.g., trainings, marketing, business development hours). Showing strong firm commitment, a designated team coordinates pro bono opportunities. The firm offers market compensation, including market base salaries and market bonuses for associates who meet Proskauer’s hours requirement. Promotion is a realistic prospect, with many associates advancing to senior counsel and partner, and the firm offers exit opportunities in the sports and entertainment industries. Perks include a fertility benefit, a quarterly health stipend, and gym memberships.
