Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Associates at Proskauer come from a wide range of law schools and typically have work experience and a strong drive to succeed. Coworkers are friendly and collegial, and limited socializing means the focus is on work and a healthy work-life balance. Though associates would appreciate improved transparency from management, partners are respectful, welcoming, and invested in associate development.. Formal training and plentiful CLE offerings are supplemented nicely with effective partner and associate mentors. Support from partners and associates also helps lateral hires transition nicely into the firm. Work assignments are challenging, with assignments tailored to an associate’s experience, and there are opportunities for client interaction. Associates say that the distribution of tasks varies, and some aren’t pleased with the rollout of Proskauer’s new policies of requiring four days per week in the office and billable hours expectations of a minimum of 2,000 productive hours required annually, including at least 1,800 development hours (e.g., client billable and a maximum of 100 pro bono hours and 100 shadowing hours) and 200 engagement hours (e.g., additional pro bono and shadowing hours, marketing, training, recruiting, community involvement). Salaries are at the market level, and discretionary bonuses are achievable. Firm technology lags but is adequate, and the firm has been slow to adopt AI tools. Counseling, executive coaching, fitness programs, and respect for personal lives support associate wellness. A full-time team encourages pro bono work and matches associates with programs. It’s difficult to make partner at Proskauer, but non-equity partner and counsel are attainable positions. Going in-house or to other firms are options as well.
