Quarles & Brady LLP

Our Survey Says

VAULT'S VERDICT:

Quarles & Brady values merit, in both grades and experience, and cultural fit when seeking candidates to join the firm. Remote work has lessened social interaction, but the associates say the firm continues to nurture a supportive and warm environment. The firm has shown increased efforts to be more transparent in terms of compensation and promotion and the associates are pleased with the feedback they receive during performance reviews. Partners at the firm are genuinely invested in the associate’s growth and development and associates feel their contributions are valued. Long hours are inevitable for a large firm, but the billable hours expectation is reasonable, and partners are keen to make sure associates’ plates are not too full. Compensation is competitive and the firm has made efforts to increase clarity into the bonus structure, however some associates wish bonuses were at a lower billable hour threshold. Work assignments are substantive, appropriate for the associate’s level of experience, and often create opportunities for associates to stretch their skills with appropriate guidance. While not the most innovative, the firm’s technology is efficient enough to allow remote work and the IT team is quick to address any issues. Wellness initiatives exist, but most associates find the office culture to better facilitate attorney wellbeing. New hires receive formal mentors and informal mentorships develop organically within practice groups. Formal trainings are resourceful, though the associates say they learn the most from on-the-job experience. The firm demonstrates a strong commitment to pro bono work, as evidenced by pro bono work being a requirement to be bonus eligible.
