As one of the oldest firms in the United States and based in Connecticut, Robinson+Cole is a top choice for associates looking for friendly office settings, partner relationships, and pro bono opportunities. Hiring standards are high, especially with respect to academic achievement and personality fit, and most associates have geographic ties to the hiring office. Coworkers are collaborative and collegial, and they enjoy spending time with each other both professionally and socially. Associates feel valued and respected by partners, and partners are accessible for questions, offer feedback generously, and act upon their desire for associate career growth. The quality of formal training depends on the practice group, but mentoring by partners and associates is abundant and beneficial. Structured integration efforts help lateral hires transition effectively into the firm. Evenly distributed work is given to associates, and most projects are challenging and consequential. Robinson+Cole has a very reasonable billable requirement of 1,800 hours, which allows associates to take a vacation and personal time. Compensation falls below the market standard but is acceptable for a firm of this size and aligns with the secondary markets where the firm has offices. Firm technology, including some AI tools, is innovative and user-friendly, and a wellness committee, speakers, programs, and activities contribute to the associates feeling that the firm cares about their well-being. Moreover, an active diversity committee sponsors talks and training programs, and efforts for promoting diverse individuals to management positions are recognized. Pro bono work is supported, encouraged, and plentiful, and unlimited hours count as billable. Promotion prospects to counsel and non-equity partner are good, and even equity partnership is attainable. Regular presentations equip associates with the career information they need.
