BCG is pretty good about trying to make this job sustainable. The hours can be tough at times, but PLs, partners are all human-beings, and recognize that on the downtimes, we should take full advantage. Further, there is a strong culture at BCG of focusing on what really matters to the client...and stop doing what doesn't matter. This means we aren't making 100+ decks that go to nobody - we are focusing on the most important analysis that will address what the client wants and make our lives sustainable. Frankly, giving the client the 10 pages that matter is better for them ... they don't want to read 100 pages.

PTO is a strong process we have internally to make sure we continue to follow these priorities. It stimulates discussion well among the team and brings to the forefront issues of work/life balance and how the team is performing.

Consulting is a tough job, and BCG is no different. But BCG truly cares about making the job sustainable for its consultants.
