Vault’s Verdict

One of the few healthcare and life sciences consultancies that operates on a global basis, IQVIA occupies a unique niche. The firm’s data-gathering and analytics capabilities only further differentiate the firm, positioning it in a rarified pool of competitors.

As an employer, IQVIA is a bit controversial among insiders. Many love the firm’s commitment to work-life balance, the opportunity to take early responsibility on big projects, and high base salaries. However, some insiders have concerns about favoritism in the firm’s promotion process, along with relatively low bonuses and slow salary progression.

That said, IQVIA is definitely a great fit for the right type of consultant. If you’re interested in building an international career in the healthcare and life sciences space, it’s worth considering.

Employee Reviews:

Firm Culture

“Leadership is very concerned about our time off and will protect us from overworking.”

Quality of Life

“IQVIA has one of the best work-life balances in consulting. There are clear boundaries between your personal life and work, and the team understands each other’s needs. Taking time off for any reason is easy, and the firm prioritizes each individual’s health and wellness.”

“The hours are standard for consulting, but travel is minimal, which could be good or bad depending on your individual preferences.”

“Folks who don’t like the travelling part of consulting will love IQVIA.”

“The firm offers flexible working arrangements.”

Career Development

“There are many opportunities to learn about consulting and the industry at a fast pace, which is great especially for those who are very eager to thrive in both industries. However, career development in terms of promotion can be stagnant at times. It depends on the business, as the internal competition is steep.”

“At IQVIA, I have had good access to experienced mentors and coaches who have been generous with sharing their experience, which is critical for my personal development. The career development opportunities at IQVIA are abundant and really depend on your personal capability. You will be rewarded if you perform well, and meritocracy is at heart of consulting.”

“The firm provides a great learning experience through working on diverse project engagements, but the promotion opportunities feel like they’re driven by favoritism.”

“The firm has a steep learning curve and gives you responsibility to execute on projects from the get-go.”

Compensation

“The base salary is relatively high compared to other companies, but salary progression has been delayed and bonuses have come in low recently, more due to the region’s financials than the local team’s financials.”

“Pay is above average in general, but there’s a lack of promotion and growth, so you don’t increment much from year to year.”

“The base pay is competitive, but the bonus pay is not.”

“We have competitive base compensation but not additional perks that are common in other consulting firms.”

Community Engagement/DEI

“We are quite diverse, with representations of multiple nationalities and cultures. Conversations at lunch are mostly about our diverse nationalities, which is a good thing.”

“All consultants have access to interesting and high-quality work opportunities for the most part, but at times favoritism is apparent.”

“The firm has biweekly runs, weekend football, and tennis groups for employees.”

Business Outlook

“The firm’s work and outputs are often valuable to our clients, which translates to a good impact and value proposition. However, internal barriers often impede us from leveraging this quality into stronger business outcomes.”

“IQVIA has a unique offering, especially in its proprietary data and technology services that no other company can match, at least at this point in time.”

“We are a data-driven and fact-based consulting firm with a strong client base. We can offer very competitive rates and, as a result, often win RFPs easily. We’re also highly regarded by industry.”

“We can leverage the company’s strong data assets, but we haven’t had much improvement in our service offerings recently.”

Hiring Process

“We have three rounds of case interviews that are standard for consulting.”

“The response from when I first applied to when I heard from IQVIA was very slow. However, after the interview process started, the interview was prompt. The firm is looking for candidates from top business schools.”

“The ideal candidate can think on the spot and adapt to multiple changes in case exercises. They should also respond well to challenges of their rationale.”

“The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, communication skills, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.”

Interview Questions

“Expect to see typical business and market sizing case studies, such as estimating the number of cars on the street.”

“Please size the Lasik surgery market in Country X.”

“What is the size of the consulting market in Indonesia. Provide a go or no-go decision for setting up a domestic manufacturing facility.”

“We often use market sizing cases for pharmaceutical drugs.”
