I think anyone is eligible for the same type of promotion but some people (males) are more conducive to being successful in a consulting role. Typically men have less problems sacrificing work life balance to advance in their career whereas women and men who are more family oriented either feel unhappy / arent as destined for success b/c they spend less time on the job.
