Hedge fund administrators are not members of unions, but a variety of accounting, auditing, and alternative investment professional associations provide helpful resources. For example, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants administers the Uniform CPA Examination, passage of which is required to become a certified public accountant. The institute also hosts more than 60 conferences and workshops on accounting and auditing topics, provides information on salary and career trends, and publishes The Journal of Accountancy. The Managed Funds Association is a membership organization for hedge fund managers and related professionals. Its Web site provides a primer on hedge funds (including a section on hedge fund myths and facts). The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) offers certification, continuing education, publications (such as AIMA Journal), and other resources to its members (fund administrators, hedge fund managers, fund of hedge funds managers, prime brokers, legal and accounting firms, investors, and independent fund directors). Other noteworthy organizations include the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, and Institute of Management Accountants.
