The Occupational Outlook Handbook predicts that employment for camera and photographic equipment repairers will decline by 17 percent from 2023 through 2033. In general, the low price of many of today's point-and-shoot cameras and the high cost of labor make it uneconomical to do extensive service on these cameras. However, as digital cameras have become more popular, some technicians who are able to repair more sophisticated electronics will be in demand. Nearly all new job openings will come from the need to replace technicians who retire or leave the field for other reasons. Technicians whose training has covered a wide variety of equipment brands and models will have the greatest chance of employment.
