Photography instructors who work at public high schools and colleges and universities may be members of unions.
Membership in the nonprofit Professional Photographers of America (PPA) offers a way for photography professors to stay active and involved in the professional field of photography. PPA offers meetings, educational resources, contests, and equipment insurance for its members. The Society for Photographic Education (SPE) is also a great resource for those teaching photography. In addition to networking, publications, and conferences, SPE offers information about job opportunities and self-promotion. SPE's membership includes teachers at nearly every academic level, as well as critics, curators, gallery directors, exhibition photographers, photojournalists, and collectors. The American Photographic Artists is a membership organization for professional photographers, educators, college students, photo assistants, and educators.
