After some lean times during the recession in the late 2000s, private equity firms were once again fund-raising in earnest by the late 2010s. In 2019, private equity and venture capital assets under management reached a record $4.11 trillion, according to the 2020 Preqin Global Private Equity & Venture Capital Report. More than 8,400 firms actively managed private equity and private debt funds worldwide that year, up from 6,170 in 2015. These numbers add up to strong demand for attorneys with expertise in private equity law.
