Unions and Associations
Most signal mechanics who work for the larger railroads are required to belong to a union—usually the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. Those who work for the smaller railroads are typically nonunionized. The Association of American Railroads and the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association are membership organizations for railroads.
