Baggage porters and bellhops, known at some hotels as uniformed service attendants, bell attendants, or guest services attendants, are considered front-of-the-house jobs in the hotel industry. They carry guests' luggage to their room on arrival and back to the lobby when they depart. At times they may be asked to run errands or deliver items for guests. Though bellhops work from the bellstand—a desk or podium located in the hotel lobby—their work takes them all over the hotel property. Bellhops are also employed at airports, bus terminals, train stations, and just about any place of travel. Approximately 27,700 baggage porters and bellhops are employed at hotels and transportation terminals in the United States.
