Southwire's internships and co-ops are organized around a project-based structure: students are assigned a project near the start of the summer and work throughout the program to develop and present a solution at a project expo held near the end of the program. This structure gives interns a defined deliverable to work toward while still allowing exposure to day-to-day operations within their assigned function.
Opportunities span multiple departments, including engineering, sales, accounting, finance, and information technology, among others. Southwire's team works to expose students to a range of roles so they can identify the function that best matches their skills and interests. Interns also receive coaching and feedback from staff throughout their assignments. The company maintains partnerships with a number of universities and professional organizations, including engineering and business school programs and diversity-focused professional associations, which feed into its broader recruiting pipeline.
