Our Survey Says
VAULT'S VERDICT:
BakerHostetler hires associates from select schools and schools near specific hiring offices, emphasizing grades, work experience, and the ability to be a team player. The people are collaborative and friendly, and they care about each other and about maintaining work-life integration. Partners are respectful and concerned about associate growth. Development is nurtured through abundant interactive trainings and skills academies and by both assigned and informal mentors. Webinars and welcoming colleagues help laterals integrate seamlessly. Assignments vary, and associates say that they are provided with consequential work and opportunities to engage in new areas with appropriate guidance. Associates can meet the billable target of 1,950 hours, which they think is fair, and they enjoy flexibility with where and when they work. Salaries and standard bonuses are below the market standard, but performance and discretionary bonuses can narrow the gap. Technology resources, including AI platforms, and an innovative technology team called IncuBaker receive high marks. BakerHostetler promotes attorney well-being through a wellness committee, counseling services, exercise programs, and an overall supportive work environment. Pro bono work is encouraged and always available for those interested, and there is no cap on the number of hours that count as billable. Career longevity is possible at BakerHostetler through counsel positions and equity partnership, which is achieved following a clear path. Attorneys who depart go in-house, to the government, or to other firms.
