Fox Rothschild

At a Glance

“Fox is a friendly environment, and the partners go out of their way to make you feel welcome and give you substantive work.”

“Lean teams, and ability to be involved in cases.”

“Compensation isn't market, and sometimes there isn't enough work to go around (though the partners don't make that the associates' responsibility).”

“The lagging associate compensation makes it less incentivizing than it should be, and the firm is at times too focused on financials over other factors like associate well-being.”

About Fox Rothschild

With nearly 1,000 attorneys practicing across 29 offices coast to coast and serving clients in various industries, Fox Rothschild doesn’t put all of its eggs in one basket. And as the firm continues to grow, it is building an impressive client list along the way.

Hailing from the City of Brotherly Love

Fox Rothschild was founded in Philadelphia in 1907. Over the last decade, the firm has expanded to several new regions through mergers and lateral moves across the country, opening offices in Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, and Oklahoma City. In 2018, the firm welcomed 130 attorneys in six offices throughout the Southeast (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) through a merger with Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP—the largest combination to date in firm history. Fox Rothschild’s client list includes closely held businesses, small public companies, and tax-exempt organizations, as well as high-net-worth individuals and celebrities (including Angela Bassett, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Bishop T.D. Jakes) and Fortune 500 companies like Wells Fargo, Walmart, Merck & Co., and Xerox.

Fox Rothschild is a well-established player in the business, corporate and securities, entertainment, labor and employment, employee benefits, real estate, creditors’ rights, litigation, and estates law fields. In addition to its more mainstream departments, Fox Rothschild has developed experience in niche practices, including entertainment, sports, and the highly regulated field of cannabis law.

Capitalizing on the brand-building revolution taking place in the entertainment and sports industry, the firm’s entertainment and sports attorneys devise strategies for celebrities, athletes, and businesses to develop and capitalize on their brands. Fox attorneys have also been associated with numerous well-known and award-winning television programs, motion pictures, and music releases. In the sports realm, litigator John Haggerty has served as trusted counsel to the tennis champion Maria Sharapova for the past decade.

Fox Rothschild is leading the pack with its multidisciplinary cannabis practice. The practice consists of nearly 90 professionals across legal disciplines who have long-standing experience in helping clients in this highly regulated industry. Its team counsels growers, distributors, processors, investors, and suppliers of ancillary products and services. The group launched a blog called In the Weeds to help keep cannabis entrepreneurs well informed on banking, real estate, financing, corporate entity formation and governance, taxation, and creditors’ rights issues that the industry regularly faces. The firm has also penned a number of helpful guides, including the Cannabis Industry State Tax Guide, Employment Compliance in the Age of Legalized Marijuana, and the National Survey on Marijuana Laws and Regulations.

Feeling Fit & Well

Fox takes a holistic approach to the promotion of employee well-being by offering tools and programs that encourage physical, psychological, and financial health through its wellness program, Fox Fit & Well program. According to the firm, since launching the program in 2009, the firm has worked with its healthcare carriers and various vendors to pursue its mission of educating, inspiring, engaging, and incentivizing attorneys and staff to maintain balance and adopt healthy lifestyles.
