About Fox Rothschild

With nearly 1,000 attorneys practicing across 30 offices coast-to-coast and serving clients in various industries, Fox Rothschild doesn’t focus in only one area. As it continues to grow, the firm is building an impressive client list.

Hailing from the City of Brotherly Love

Fox Rothschild was founded in Philadelphia in 1907. Over the past decade, the firm has expanded to several new regions across the country through mergers and lateral moves, opening offices in Seattle, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, and Sarasota. In 2018, the firm welcomed 130 attorneys in six offices throughout the southeast (North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia) through a merger with Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP—the largest combination in firm history to date.  Fox Rothschild’s client list includes closely held businesses, small public companies, and tax-exempt organizations, as well as high-net-worth individuals and celebrities (including Angela Bassett, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Bishop T.D. Jakes) and Fortune 500 companies such as Wells Fargo, Walmart, Merck & Co., and Xerox.

Niche

Fox Rothschild is an established player in business, corporate and securities, entertainment, labor and employment, employee benefits, real estate, creditors’ rights, litigation, and estate law. In addition to its mainstream departments, Fox Rothschild has developed niche practices, including entertainment, sports, and the highly regulated field of cannabis law. Capitalizing on the brand-building revolution in the entertainment and sports industry, the firm’s attorneys devise strategies for celebrities, athletes, and businesses to develop their brands and capitalize on them. Fox attorneys have also been associated with numerous well-known and award-winning television programs, motion pictures, and music releases.

Fox Rothschild is leading the pack with its multidisciplinary cannabis practice. The practice consists of nearly 90 professionals across legal disciplines. Its team counsels growers, distributors, processors, investors, and suppliers of ancillary products and services. The group launched a blog called In the Weeds to help keep cannabis entrepreneurs informed on banking, real estate, financing, corporate entity formation and governance, taxation, and creditors’ rights issues that the industry regularly faces. The firm has also penned a number of helpful guides including the Cannabis Industry State Tax Guide, Employment Compliance in the Age of Legalized Marijuana, and The National Survey on Marijuana Laws and Regulations.

The firm also recently formalized a nationwide Artificial Intelligence Practice. The AI team helps clients develop, deploy and use AI in a responsible, ethical and legal manner, including developing policies that comply with applicable laws and regulations, minimize risk, and promote innovation. Fox Rothschild’s AI attorneys also help clients navigate the complex data privacy, security and transparency issues that AI can create, as well as provide guidance on regulatory compliance, contractual agreements, IP protection, dispute resolution and litigation, ethical AI, training and education.

Feeling Fit & Well

Fox takes a holistic approach to the promotion of employee well-being by offering tools and programs that encourage physical, psychological, and financial health through its wellness program, Fox Fit & Well program. Since launching the program in 2009, the firm says that it has worked with healthcare carriers and various vendors to pursue its mission of educating, inspiring, engaging, and incentivizing attorneys and staff to maintain balance and adopt healthy lifestyles.

News & Awards

NOTABLE CASES
  • Secured victory in first-of-its-kind trial in suit by plaintiffs to hold pharmaceutical distribution companies liable for harms caused by relatives’ opioid abuse under Georgia Drug Dealer Liability Act, which allows relatives of drug users to sue dealers for harms endured. Fox litigators expressed sympathy for plaintiffs but argued firm client J M Smith Corp. had complied with USDEA regulations to prevent illegal diversion of controlled substances while also balancing secure access to prescribed medications to patients with legitimate medical need. Jury sided with defendants after more than four weeks of trial testimony, also finding pharmaceutical companies did not violate Georgia RICO Act or conspire with county pharmacies to profit from use of controlled substances used to fill invalid prescriptions.

  • Represented NYC Football Club and Queens Development Group in obtaining approvals for Willets Point Phase II Project, a 17-acre construction plan including 25,000-seat soccer stadium, 250-room hotel, 1,400 affordable housing units and public open space.

  • Problem-solved with city officials in Fayette, Georgia, to ensure rap icon Rick Ross’ second annual bike and car show event would go on.

  • In pro bono matter through U.S. Olympics Athlete Ombuds Committee, helped clear way for two-time Olympian swimmer Anita Alvarez to return to competition.
