Fox Rothschild

Our Survey Says

Even though Fox Rothschild has grown to nearly 1,000 attorneys—despite not expanding into international markets—it still has been able to emphasize attributes like culture and work-life balance. Academic achievement and work experience are more important in the hiring process than law school attended, and firm settings eschew stuffy formalities. Attorneys and staff work well together because everyone is supportive and collaborative. Partners respect associates and value their work, providing feedback along the way. Formal training is extensive and helpful, while more is gained through informal relationships than formal mentor/mentee assignments. Lateral hires generally transition well, though certain aspects could improve. Work quality runs the spectrum from mundane to complex, and associates are able to push for more challenging work. Partners and senior associates delegate work fairly, with experienced associates getting some of the more complex assignments. Billable expectations are reasonable at 1,850-1,900 hours, and associates are frustrated that compensation is below market. They generally feel, however, that giving up pay for the agreeable work-life balance is worth it. Technology is serviceable, if not innovative, and the Fox Fit & Well program offers some nice activities for wellness, though it could be tweaked to be more effective. Pro bono work is supported, if not encouraged outright, with 50 hours counting as billable, and Fox Rothschild does well in certain areas of diversity—having a chief DEI officer and a fellowship program—with help needed in other areas, including hiring persons from underrepresented groups. Making partner or becoming counsel is realistic and is a transparent process, while others find success going in-house or to other firms.

Fox Rothschild has grown to a national law firm of 1,000 attorneys by attracting bright and creative legal talent who know how to think forward and drive results. We provide a national stage and equip attorneys with the platform to nurture innovation and foster client success. Our clients—individuals, public and private companies, nonprofits, startups, family-run businesses, and multinational corporations—enjoy the focus and service of a boutique, the reach and resources of a national firm, and our unwavering commitment to client satisfaction.

Our firm is, and has always been, committed to a more just and equal world. Our DEI work over the past year includes:

  • Earned Mansfield Certification through participation in Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule 5.0 program. We are a participating firm in Mansfield 6.0, the newest and most rigorous version of its certification process.
  • We were one of 43 U.S.-based law firms included on Bloomberg Law’s 2022 list of law firms that meet or exceed an established DEI threshold.
  • We were among the 57 law firms recognized during the Diversity and Flexibility Alliance’s Annual Conference for having 50% or more women in our 2022 U.S.-based new partner class.
  • The firm offers attorneys up to 50 billable hours per fiscal year for DEI-related activities.

Each year, we welcome a group of bright, motivated, and diverse individuals to our Summer Associate Program. Students are immersed in real-world assignments, receive professional and social networking opportunities, hone existing skills, and acquire new ones in weekly professional development programs.
