 VAULT'S VERDICT:

Fox Rothschild hasn’t let its strong and steady growth affect its small firm vibes. Despite employing over 1,000 attorneys in 30 offices, the firm still manages to foster a culture of “togetherness,” kindness, and respect. In addition to high grades, successful candidates show enthusiasm for the work, entrepreneurial spirit, and “fit” with the firm’s culture. The firm does not limit hiring to T14 schools and casts a wider net to find the best candidates. Attorneys get along well at Fox Rothschild, and although socializing outside the office is not common, day-to-day interactions are social and pleasant. Work-life balance is incredibly important to Fox Rothschild attorneys, and associates appreciate feeling less pressure than is felt by their counterparts at many BigLaw peer firms. The firm’s 1,850 to 1,900 (depending on department) billable hour requirement feels manageable, although some associates would like better work distribution. Below-market compensation is a pain point for some associates, but others view lower compensation as a reasonable tradeoff for less-demanding hours. Work is largely substantive, and partners are very invested in associate development. Firm leadership is moderately transparent but can be close-mouthed on compensation and promotion. Nevertheless, associates see a very realistic path to partnership or counsel roles. Wellness is manifested in the firm’s supportive culture, but not as much in the form of formal initiatives, although some are in place. Associates would like to feel more encouraged and enabled to perform pro bono work, which they feel is underemphasized. Pro bono credit toward billable hours is capped at 50 hours. The firm is making strides toward diversity, and associates have a positive outlook on DEI initiatives.

• We joined Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule 5.0 program. Through this, Fox will set benchmarks to ensure that at least 30% female lawyers, lawyers of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities are considered for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, and senior lateral positions.
• For the fourth consecutive year, we received a perfect score on the annual Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, again securing the designation of a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
• The firm now offers attorneys up 50 billable hours of credit per fiscal year for DEI-related activities. Each year, we welcome a group of bright, motivated and diverse individuals to our Summer Associate Program. Students are immersed in real-world assignments, receive professional and social networking opportunities, and hone existing skills and acquire new ones in weekly professional development programs.
