VAULT'S VERDICT:
Hiring is competitive at Fox Rothschild, and candidates who show excellent academic credentials and a solid work ethic are considered, regardless of law school. Associates describe colleagues as respectful and friendly, but they prefer going home after work over socializing. Creating a relatively nonhierarchical work environment, partners make an effort to get to know associates, and management is transparent regarding finances, expectations, and career trajectory. The 1,850 (and 1,900 for the family law, federal government contracts, environmental, and litigation departments) billable hours requirement is said to be manageable, and although it could be more evenly distributed, work remains sufficiently consistent for associates to reach the billable target. Compensation is below the BigLaw market, but associates say that the trade-off for the family-friendly culture is reasonable and that the firm has made strides to increase compensation. Technology is ahead of the curve, enabling attorneys to work off-site and piloting AI programs. The firm’s leadership takes an interest in associate well-being, but associates would like to have billable PTO. Mentors provide learning-on-the-job, which is the most prevalent and valued training, but practice- and seniority-specific formal programs are also useful. Fifty hours of pro bono work are credited toward the billable target. Fox Rothschild has a two-tier partnership structure, and making income partner is an achievable goal, while becoming equity partner is, as expected, more difficult but still possible. The firm has also recently formalized a counsel role as a long-term option. Those who choose to leave find positions with other firms or the government.

- We joined Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule 7.0 program. Through this, Fox will set benchmarks to ensure that at least 30% female lawyers, lawyers of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities are considered for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, and senior lateral positions.
- For the second consecutive year, we received a score of 95 out of 100 on the annual Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index.
- The firm offers attorneys up 50 billable hours of credit per fiscal year for cultural engagement activities.
- Each year, we welcome a group of bright, motivated and innovative individuals to our Summer Associate Program. Students are immersed in real-world assignments, receive professional and social networking opportunities, and hone existing skills and acquire new ones in weekly professional development programs.
