About Greenberg Traurig, LLP

Greenberg Traurig, LLP, clients include some of the biggest names in information technology, energy, entertainment, telecommunications, real estate, financial services, and healthcare. With approximately four dozen offices worldwide, an exceptionally broad practice scope, and household names for clients, it is one of the largest firms in the United States.

Southern Heat

Greenberg Traurig traces its roots to 1967, when three Miami attorneys established a practice modeled on New York’s boutique transactional firms. Mel Greenberg was the firm’s first CEO; University of Miami grad Robert Traurig became a power player among southern Florida’s real estate firms, builders, and developers; and early name partner Larry Hoffman became the firm’s CEO in the 1990s. Under Hoffman’s leadership, the firm began expanding, and through both organic growth and strategic acquisition of other firms, Greenberg Traurig continued to grow throughout the United States in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, the firm boasts 34 U.S. and 15 international offices.

From Construction to Ball Games

Although the firm has expanded significantly since its early days, traces of Greenberg Traurig’s history remain in its modern practice. The firm continues to hold sway in the real estate market, and its influence is felt far from Miami. It has gained traction in Manhattan real estate circles by working on some of the city’s largest deals. The firm’s real estate department is armed with more than 700 lawyers who work with clients across the world. The attorneys’ experience spans all facets of the industry, including construction, finance, hospitality, land development and land use, leasing, litigation matters, real estate investment trusts, and tax matters.

The firm is known for its entertainment and media practice and has ranked among the top 15 firms in Vault’s Media, Entertainment, & Sports rankings. The firm’s lawyers work across practices, serving clients’ needs related to financing, intellectual property, labor and employment, litigation, real estate, regulatory matters, taxes, and trusts and estates. The firm specializes in legal issues related to sports facilities and entertainment venues, sports, video games, and esports.

Developing Professionals

Greenberg Traurig’s Hoffman Center for Professional Development oversees all areas of learning at the firm. Hoffman Center programming helps the firm advance its goals to enhance associate careers and enable associates to track their career development against the firm’s core competencies and create deeper ties with shareholders and mentors, who are invested in helping them succeed. The program is not one-size-fits-all by design; the firm acknowledges and recognizes that everyone has their own path and goals. As part of the associate development program, there is a formal mentor program for associates. In addition, shareholder-level lawyers serve as career development liaisons in each office, overseeing the development of the associates, taking responsibility for ensuring the associates receive assignments, supporting their growth and development, assessing performance, and providing feedback on the individual as part of their career trajectory as a lawyer.
