About Greenberg Traurig, LLP
Greenberg Traurig, LLP counts among its clients some of the biggest names in information technology, energy, entertainment, telecommunications, real estate, financial services, and healthcare. With almost four dozen offices worldwide, an exceptionally broad practice scope, and household names for clients, it ranks as one of the nation’s largest firms.
Southern Heat
Greenberg Traurig traces its roots to 1967, when three Miami attorneys established a practice modeled on New York’s boutique transactional firms. Mel Greenberg was the firm’s first chief executive officer; University of Miami grad Robert Traurig became a power player among southern Florida’s real estate firms, builders, and developers; and early name partner Larry Hoffman went on to become the firm’s CEO in the ’90s. Under Hoffman’s leadership, the firm began significant expansion around the U.S. Greenberg Traurig continued to grow through the late 1990s and early 2000s, both through organic expansion and strategic acquisitions of other firms. Today, the firm boasts 34 offices around the U.S. and 11 international locations.
From Construction to Ball Games
Although the firm has grown significantly since its early days, there are still traces of Greenberg Traurig’s history in its modern practice. The firm continues to hold sway in the real estate market, and its influence is felt far beyond Miami—it has gained traction in Manhattan real estate circles, working on some of the city’s largest deals. The firm’s real estate department is armed with more than 700 lawyers who work with clients across the world. The firm’s experience spans all facets of the industry, including construction, finance, hospitality, land development and land use, leasing, litigation matters, REITs, tax, and more.
The firm is also known for its entertainment & media practice and has ranked among the top 10 firms in Vault’s Media, Entertainment, & Sports ranking. The firm’s lawyers work across practices, serving clients’ needs in financing, IP counseling, labor and employment, litigation, real estate, regulatory issues, tax, trusts and estates, and more. Among the firm’s specialties are sports facilities and entertainment venues, sports law, and video games and esports.
Choose Your Track
Greenberg Traurig offers an alternative to the typical law firm associate path through its practice group attorney position. Practice group attorneys are full-time hires who receive benefits but are not on the shareholder track. The position is not limited by level. And the position is fluid—if a lawyer decides they want to transition from a practice group attorney to get back on the partnership track, they can.
