Live the Haynes Boone Experience – Nine to Ten Weeks of Career Development, Network Building and In-Depth Mentorship Experience

- Paired with a supervising partner and one or two associate mentors that will work with you every day throughout the summer
- Gain substantive skills and legal insight by attending regular practice group meetings where legal training is provided
Your Practice Focus
Summer associates are typically assigned to one or two practice areas aligned with their stated preferences. Recognizing that interests may evolve, we also offer exposure to additional practice groups through training programs and encourage exploration across all areas of interest. Your Work
Wherever possible you’ll have the opportunity to attend client meetings, closings, negotiations, depositions, trials and courtroom hearings. The lawyers you work with will also ask you to draft research memoranda, litigation pleadings, motions and briefs, and a broad range of transactional documents. It’s a well-rounded approach that lets you demonstrate your analytical, advocacy and writing skills.
Your Hours
While we don’t require summer associates to work a minimum number of hours, most work an average of 40 to 50 hours per week depending on their work assignments. It gives you a feel for the “real world” pace and reflects the quality work that you’ll have as a new associate.
Your Assignments
Each summer associate is assigned a partner supervisor and one or more associate mentors who give you work assignments. These assignments correspond to specific practice areas and change as you rotate through different groups during the summer.
Your Social Activities
We design the social aspects of your summer so you can fully experience the city in which you’re summering and get to know your peers and the Haynes Boone lawyers. We encourage you to participate in events such as dinners, sporting events, and practice group get-togethers, but you won’t be required to attend all activities.
Haynes Boone Scholarship Opportunities The Haynes Boone Scholarships have been established to attract outstanding students to the private practice of law while helping these students be successful in law school through both work and mentorship experiences. Our HB Scholarships are offered along with the traditional nine- to ten-week paid summer clerkship with Haynes Boone and are paid during the school year. For 1L students, there is an opportunity to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship funds to assist with school related expenses. Haynes Boone is committed to recruiting, retaining, and advancing young lawyers and our scholarships are one of the many initiatives we have implemented to contribute toward enhancing our firm and profession. Students interested in applying for a scholarship are required to submit a statement along with their application materials. 1L Scholarship - Potential Total Scholarship $50,000

First-Year Associate Scholarship - Potential Total Scholarship $15,000
- $15,000 if students receive and accept our First-Year Associate offer
