Weil is a great opportunity to engage with high-level legal work. The culture is collegial and collaborative, and partners treat associates with respect. The firm is transparent about financial performance and associate expectations, although some would appreciate more clarity around promotions. Hours can be long but work is equitably distributed and generally substantive, and the firm has no formal billable hour requirement, which associates appreciate for those times when slow periods do come around. Salaries and bonuses are scaled to the top of the market and independent of billable hours. Technology is adequate, and the IT Department receives glowing reviews. The firm expects associates to be in the office four days a week. Wellness initiatives are available and generally well-supported; they include a gym stipend and six free coaching sessions for interested individuals. Formal training, informal training, and mentorship are all robust, with most associates reporting multiple official and informal mentoring relationships. Equity partnership is regarded as difficult but realistic to attain; counsel roles are available, and exit opportunities are abundant, with the firm supportive of external transitions. The firm boasts a very strong commitment to pro bono, with a minimum of 50 hours and all pro bono hours considered equal to billable hours. Additionally, associates appreciate the firm’s commitment to inclusion, spotlighting a focus on both recruitment and retention as well as billable credit for inclusion-related activities.
