Vault VerdictÂ
Weil provides a collegial workplace that excels in its focus on pro bono and diversity. Without a formal hour requirement, associates still bill typical BigLaw hours and receive top-of-market compensation. The firm hires candidates with excellent credentials from the best regional law schools and seeks sociable lawyers who take work but not themselves seriously. Associates report constructive relations with partners, with solid mentorship as well as more academic, formal training opportunities. Partnership track is generally shorter than at peer firms. Exit opportunities to other law firms and in-house positions abound. At the height of the pandemic, summer associates worked for only eight weeks, spending the second four weeks at pro bono organizations of their choice, and were paid for the full summer. Social opportunities were limited to virtual experiences, yet summer associates still favorably rated their experiences. Normally, Weil summer associates enjoy a variety of in-person events during which to socialize and connect. Returning, full-time associates feel prepared, but are tasked with more document review or complex tasks compared to their summer experiences. The firm receives high praise for its parental leave for both birthing and non-birthing parents, as well as for its surrogacy and adoption benefits.
