Doll Designers and Makers

Overview

Doll designers and makers develop ideas for dolls, design them, and then either create them or create a prototype so a manufacturer can make them. Designers may create dolls as toys, decorations, or art, or for collecting. They determine the size of dolls, the materials used to make them, and their purpose—whether as a toy, a decoration, or a collector's item. Some designers create ideas for dolls by drawing and sketching designs on paper. Others use design software to plan them digitally. Doll designers work for toy or doll manufacturers or toy companies, or they are self-employed. In addition to designing the doll, they usually design the doll's clothing and accessories.
