While the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) does not specifically provide an employment outlook for doll designers and makers, it does discuss industrial designers, a career category that includes toy and doll designers. It predicts that job opportunities for industrial designers will increase 3 percent (about as fast as the average for all careers) from 2023 to 2033. Consumer demand for innovative products and new product styles will sustain the demand for industrial designers, although competition will be very strong for the best design jobs.
Many doll designers and makers are self-employed. Whether on a large or small basis, they continue creating dolls and finding ways to market them, a part of the industry that does not appear to be declining.
