Private equity chief dealmakers do not belong to unions. The American Investment Council (AIC) and Emerging Markets Private Equity (EMPEA) Association are membership organizations for private equity firms, limited partners, fund managers, and related entities. The AIC describes itself as “an advocacy and resource organization established to develop and provide information about the private investment industry and its contributions to the long-term growth of the U.S. economy and retirement security of American workers.” Its Web site (https://www.investmentcouncil.org) provides information on industry trends and the benefits of private equity. According to its Web site (https://empea.org), the non-profit EMPEA "brings together 300+ firms—including institutional investors, fund managers, and industry advisors—who manage more than USD5 trillion in assets across 130 countries. EMPEA supports its members globally through authoritative research and intelligence, investor meetings, education, and advocacy.” It offers continuing education opportunities, industry statistics, and an annual conference.
