Venture capital accountants and auditors are not members of unions. The accounting industry has many professional associations at the national, state, and local levels that provide membership, career resources, educational opportunities, and networking events. For example, accountants and auditors in California (a hotbed of the venture capital industry) can join the California Society of CPAs, among other organizations. At the national level, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the leading professional association for accounting professionals. It administers the Uniform CPA Examination, and, in cooperation with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, offers the chartered global management accountant credential. The AICPA has a membership category for college students, and its Web site features a job board and many career development resources. The National Venture Capital Association is a trade organization of the leading venture capital firms. The Western Association of Venture Capitalists is a membership organization of VC firms that are headquartered in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arizona. Other noteworthy organizations include the CFA Institute, Chartered Alternate Investment Analyst Association, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Institute of Management Accountants.
