Investor relations professionals travel frequently to meet with current and potential investors. A road show can last anywhere from five to 10 days, and this series of presentations and schmoozing sessions with fund managers, analysts, and investors can be draining. The job can be stressful during busy times such as when a firm is implementing its exit strategy (i.e., IPO, merger, selling the company) or when limited partners are unhappy with the performance of the fund or the firm’s investment strategies. On the other hand, many IR specialists enjoy this career because it provides a lot of variety (i.e., road shows in different cities or even countries, meetings with all types of people, creating marketing campaigns, crunching numbers, etc.).
