Venture Capitalists

Work Environment

Venture capital firms are loaded with highly intelligent, creative, and passionate people with Type-A personalities. If this description fits you, then you’ll be a good fit and enjoy the work environment. If not, you might want to reconsider pursuing a career in this ultra-competitive industry. A typical day for a venture capitalist might consist of a meeting with an analyst to review financial data, another meeting with partners to discuss the pros and cons of a potential investment, time at one’s desk to crunch numbers and handle administrative duties, lunch with an entrepreneur who is seeking funding, and attendance at yet another meeting, this time with the board of directors of one of the firm’s portfolio companies. The work hours for venture capitalists can be long. Many venture capital and private equity professionals work up to 70 hours a week
