About Cornerstone Research

In the increasingly high-stakes world of commercial litigation, attorneys often need help sifting through complex economic or financial issues. Cornerstone Research is the place they turn to for help. Top-tier law firms have retained Cornerstone Research throughout its more than thirty years in business. The firm consults to attorneys across all phases of the litigation process and works with a broad network of expert witnesses recognized for their depth of knowledge, accomplishments, and research.  The matters on which the firm provides support span numerous industries, including automotive and related industries; consumer finance; energy and commodities; financial institutions; fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrency; healthcare; hospitality travel and tourism; insurance and pension plans; life sciences; manufacturing; private equity and venture capital; real estate; technology, digital economy and artificial intelligence; and telecommunications, media and entertainment.

Suppose you were to believe everything you see on TV. In TV law, preparing for a trial involves a group of attorneys debating before one of them wins over the judge or jury with an emotive argument. The reality, of course, is much more sophisticated and complicated—as Cornerstone Research’s list of practices and services illustrates.

The firm offers six main phases of support that law firms can draw upon as they prepare for cases:

  • Consulting with attorneys
  • Engaging and working with expert witnesses
  • Conducting research and analysis
  • Consulting on internal and regulatory inquiries
  • Consulting in motion practice
  • Preparing for deposition and trial

The first of these categories is the broadest. Given the many complexities that can arise in legal matters, attorneys call upon Cornerstone Research to analyze key business, economics, or finance issues. Cornerstone Research’s consultants provide that expertise and knowledge, as do the academic experts and industry specialists drawn from the firm’s extensive global network. If a case makes it to a courtroom, the firm’s services can extend through trial and post-trial briefs.

Some undergraduates who join Cornerstone Research eventually leave to earn graduate degrees, such as PhDs in economics or finance, or law degrees. The firm provides substantial support to consultants applying to graduate school. For example, it brings in admissions counselors from top institutions to give presentations and talk to consultants about admissions requirements at their respective universities.
