Casinos and gaming facilities are located throughout the country and the world. Opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing careers as directors of casino security can be found at land-based casinos; racinos, which are a combination of a racetrack and a casino; riverboats that host casinos; or even on cruise ships.
Gaming facilities are often open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so it is common for directors of security to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Although they may have an office and sit at a desk for part of their work day, directors are often required to be in the casino area and on their feet much of the time.
While some casinos are smoke-free, this is not always the case. In some casinos the environment may typically be smoky, which exposes individuals to secondhand smoke from cigarettes, cigars, and pipes.
The casino floor may have a lot of bright, flashing lights to draw attention to specific games and slot machines. This may bother certain people’s eyes or give them headaches. The noise of the slots and the excitement of people winning can also create a loud noise level that may bother certain people.
