Medical librarians who work for government agencies may be members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees and other unions. The Medical Library Association, American Library Association, and the Special Libraries Association provide membership to medical librarians. The Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries is a membership organization of academic health sciences libraries whose medical schools hold member or associate member status in the Association of American Medical Colleges. The National Library of Medicine, the world’s largest biomedical library, offers fellowships for recent library science graduates, as well as jobs for medical librarians.
