“Large but Diverse Opportunities”

The range of classes and clinical programs is fantastic. Also, the professors are top-notch.

Downers

Can be competitive and the first-year classes are very large.

Comments

The law school is excellent overall and the ability to take classes in a variety of subject-matter areas is great. The clinical programs are some of the best in the country. Also, the range of journals affords many students an opportunity to contribute.

the courses are definitely pros for choosing GULC. With the good location of the school, a lot of teachers are adjunct professors from various government agencies, ie., SEC, CFTC. This maximizes the depth of the class and experience a student may get.

Downers

the career advisor is definitely a downside in GULC. They only give a general idea and pays little attention to individual student.

Comments

This is a good school especially when you are seeking to be working in government agencies. And you have to work hard in a greater amount of students and in a little market.

several kinds of subjects available for students who are interested in learn US laws and legal practices.

Downers

Location: why do we need to study next to Union Station in DC.

Comments

GTU Law is a huge size law school. If you want to study in a small group, you should choose another place. If you want to study in a big class room with many students with several backgrounds, this is for you.

Professors are very engaged, talented and eager to assist students.

Downers

Career Services Department is a bit lack luster. The GULC network is large and it does not seem that career services is on top of tapping into it.

Comments

It is highly recommended that you join a clinic, as they are phenomenal at GULC and will introduce you to great professionals.

Wide variety of class offerings

Students are not competitive with each other

Cafeteria is solid

Downers

Huge class sizes

Not much connection with professors

Terrible area in DC

Comments

Be careful if your heart is set on DC biglaw. It is still very difficult to get even out of GULC. NYC (and sometimes secondaries) is significantly easier.

“Georgetown is a quality school”

I like the gym and Hotung library. I like the quality of the Professors. I appreciate the services that the school provides and the student involvement on campus.

Downers

I don't like McDonough and the Williams library needs remodeling.

Comments

I would say that it's a competitive environment, but I'm not sure that's something you can escape in law school. I would say it provides a lot of opportunities, if you do well.

Georgetown has TONS of opportunities for classes, with a huge variety of offerings. Class sizes vary with the subject matter. I was in large classes for Tax and small classes for Elder Law, for example. Students are competitive and work hard but are not vindictive in their competition. There are numerous study abroad programs offered. I spent a semester in Beijing, China during my time there. The faculty are awesome and accessible. Loved almost all of my professors.

Quality of Life

I loved the separate law campus. The location was phenomenal and the actually campus is lovely. I really like that it was self-contained. The neighborhood is "so-so" with more and mroe housing opportunities and restaurants springing up. During my time at Georgetown a Safeway went in within walking distance which was a HUGE help. The school also offers transportation to other stores and shopping destinations. Also located conveniently close to the Metro. I never had a problem with crime although there were a lot of homeless people wandering about the neighborhood. Campus security is EXCELLENT. I was on a first-name basis with several of the security guards on campus. I really enjoyed them and found them helpful. The facilities are excellent. Beautiful library. The food on campus was pretty crappy. The gym is insanely awesome, complete with a pool. I really enjoyed my time there.

Admissions

LSAT, essays, etc. Georgetown has an automatic early admissions program and if you apply before a certain date you get an early response. Also, the Dean of Admissions tends to write personalized comments on admissions letters. Big seller for me.

I felt there was a very strong mix and good balance of the theoretical and the practical, particularly in the 2nd and 3rd year classes. The seminar classes in subjects such as evidence and constitutional law were exceptionally good, with professors being engaged and very interactive. Nearly every professor I had a class with had some "real world" practice experience, either in government, business or private practice. Also, the classes were taught by the professors, not be teaching assistants.

Quality of Life

I did not live on campus, as there was not law school campus living at that time. I believe there is now. The law school is located near Capitol Hill and not in Georgetown at the main campus, so it is more of an urban setting. Very accessible via metro and other transportation. The facility now is superb. Excellent library and classroom facilities.

Admissions

LSAT, essay questions, complete GULC application

Georgetown was one of the largest schools in the country. Different professors handled their classes differently. I entered a clinical program for practical experience. I took more theoretical classes such as Federal Courts and Constitutional Law with some of the best theorists in the country. Some classes were in the middle (i.e., Legislation taught by Wm. Eskridge-- he wrote the book and demonstrated the inner workings as they happened on Capitol Hill).

Quality of Life

At the time, Georgetown ULC was one building in a poor neighborhood. Since I attended, they added a student center and library. Union Station opened and the neighborhood is now quite "Tony." I graduated too soon to enjoy all that.

Admissions

Typical: fill out the application which includes essays. Complete the LSAT. Financial aid was handled on a sparate track.

Collegial atmosphere, but very difficult. Many opportunities.

Admissions

Personal statement, application, LSAT scores requested. There were additional essays for smaller, more specific programs.
