As one who makes decisions on compensation, I can attest to the fact that gender plays no role in compensation, promotions, etc - our people are paid based on their role in the organization and what they can contribute in helping our clients.
Our compensation is fair and progresses significantly with promotions. Our mid-level ("Principal") consultants are provided with the opportunity to purchase equity in the firm, and we currently have almost 50% of our firm with some ownership stake which is very unique.
