Microfabrication Engineers

Unions and Associations

Some microfabrication engineers are represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, and other unions. In addition, many other organizations provide useful resources. Some professional associations have councils or subgroups for those who specialize in microfabrication—including the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Microarchitectural Research & Processing. MEMS & Sensors Industry Group is a trade association of nearly 150 microelectromechanical systems companies. It offers career and continuing education resources. Some microfabrication engineers are members of the American Institute of Physics, Materials Research Society, Association for Computing Machinery, National Society of Professional Engineers, IEEE Computer Society, Society of Women Engineers, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, and other organizations. ABET accredits postsecondary engineering education programs.
