Some microfabrication technicians are represented by the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and other unions. In addition, many other organizations provide useful resources. Some professional associations have councils or subgroups for those who specialize in microfabrication—including the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Microarchitectural Research & Processing. MEMS & Sensors Industry Group is a trade association of microelectromechanical systems companies. It offers career and continuing education resources. Some technicians are members of the American Institute of Physics, Materials Research Society, Association for Computing Machinery, IEEE Computer Society, SME, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, and other organizations. ABET accredits postsecondary engineering and engineering technology education programs.
