The ideal candidate for an accounts payable specialist position has one to three years of experience in a lower-level accounts payable or similar financial role, but entry-level positions are available.
Accounts payable specialists must have a detail-oriented personality, the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, and top-notch problem-solving and organizational skills. They also need strong communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with vendors, customers, and colleagues. Accounts payable specialists who can work both independently and collaboratively within a team will be in demand. Specialists also must be familiar with invoice coding and payment processing procedures and systems and have proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
