Children's Librarians

Earnings

Salaries for children's librarians depend on such factors as the size, location, and type of library; the responsibilities of the position; and the amount of experience the librarian has. Mean annual earnings for librarians who worked at elementary and secondary schools were $71,800 in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Librarians who worked in local government-funded libraries earned $62,360. Ten percent of all librarians were paid less than $38,690, and 10 percent earned $101,970 or more annually.

Most librarians receive compensated sick leave, paid vacation time, holiday pay, various insurance plans, and retirement savings programs.
