Directors of fund-raising do not belong to unions, but a number of organizations provide professional support as well as the opportunity to make important networking contacts. These include the Association of Fund-raising Professionals, ANA, and the Public Relations Society of America.
Aspiring directors may also want to contact the Council on Foundations, Candid, and National Council of Nonprofits. These groups provide information on the nonprofit sector. It's also helpful to join associations and organizations that are dedicated to specific industry (e.g., education, environment) in which the individual is raising funds.
