Electrologists

Earnings

Because electrologists schedule client treatments that vary in length, their fees are often based on quarter-hour appointments. Rates for a 15-minute treatment may begin at $15 in some cities, while charges in large urban regions may begin at $40. Costs for treatments lasting 30 or 60 minutes in large cities may range from $50 to $100 or more.

Skincare specialists, including electrologists, earned a median annual salary of $43,200 in May 2023, according to the Department of Labor. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $27,600, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $81,320. The American Electrology Association reports that full-time, established electrologists can earn between $25,000 and $50,000 per year. Electrologists who are employed by a medical clinic or salon may have to contribute a portion of their fees to help cover office space, utilities, and support staff such as receptionists and bookkeepers.

Electrologists employed by a salon or group practice generally receive the same benefits as other employees, which may include health, dental, and life insurance, as well as disability coverage, retirement savings plans, and paid vacations. Self-employed electrologists usually must provide these benefits for themselves.
