Herbalists do not belong to unions. They can receive certification in Chinese herbalogy and Oriental medicine through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Those who specialize in the medicinal use of plants have peer reviews done by the American Herbalists Guild. Other organizations that offer educational programs and career support for herbalists include the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, American Botanical Council, American Herbal Products Association, Herb Research Foundation, The Herb Society of America, and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.
