Public Relations Managers

Work Environment

Public relations managers, especially those employed by large corporations, may have their own spacious office, or simply a desk in a cubicle, if at a smaller firm. Some high-level managers may enjoy benefits such as a company car, expense accounts, or access to free merchandise or services from different vendors.

The daily pace of a public relations office is usually busy and exciting, especially when workers are in the middle of an important publicity campaign, or when they are tackling multiple projects. Expect long hours—55- to 60-hour workweeks may be the norm at some firms. Approximately 40 percent of PR managers work more than 40 hours per week. Functions are often scheduled on evenings or weekends, which may affect a manager's personal or family time.
