Stage managers work in a variety of theaters, including summer stock, regional theaters, off-Broadway, off-off Broadway, and Broadway. Some work for touring companies. Stage managers also work at large stadiums, casinos or hotel showrooms, and other venues that host live music or variety acts.
Individuals may work afternoons, nights, and weekends depending on when productions are scheduled. Those that travel with a touring production will have to leave home for extended periods of time.
Stage managers, like others in theater, often work under pressure and put in long hours. They may face tight deadlines with people who may be stressed themselves.
