Tire technicians are employed by tire manufacturers. There were approximately 300 tire manufacturers in operation in the United States, with more than 58,000 employees, as of April 2025, according to the market research group IBISWorld. Large tire manufacturing companies, such as Goodyear, Dunlop, and Michelin, all employ technicians to test new tires.
Starting Out
A good way to find employment is to apply directly at the personnel offices of tire manufacturers or on their Web sites. Career services offices at technical institutes and vocational schools also will be good sources of information. Employers looking for qualified technicians often contact these schools when there are job openings.
