The U.S. Department of Labor reports that employment for all physicians and surgeons is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2032. Although no official government analysis of the future of Ayurveda has yet been conducted, it seems safe to say that the field is expanding more rapidly than the average for all fields. Ayurveda has become relatively popular in a short period of time, largely because of the popularity of Deepak Chopra, an Ayurvedic expert who is also an M.D. It has certainly benefited from the popular acceptance of alternative and complementary medicine and therapies in recent years, particularly because it is a holistic practice that aims to treat the whole person rather than the symptoms of disease or discomfort. Because Western medicine is often viewed as mechanical and dehumanizing, many people are looking for alternative forms of medicine that take into account the whole person.
