Most furniture movers are paid on an hourly basis. Their wages depend on which area of the country they live in, the size of the company they work for, and their skills and experience level. Laborers and freight, stock, and material movers earned median hourly salaries of $18.10 (or $37,660 annually) in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The lowest paid 10 percent earned $14.18 an hour (or $29,480 a year), and the highest paid 10 percent averaged $24.17 or more per hour (or $50,280 annually).
Because of their increased responsibilities, drivers earn somewhat more than assistants. Many van drivers belong to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The wages and benefits for union members are determined by agreements between unions and employers.
Most full-time movers receive benefits such as health insurance plans and paid vacation days, although union workers may receive more substantial benefit packages than nonunion workers.
