Advertising Account Executives

Work Environment

Most advertising executives work in an office environment. It is not uncommon for advertising account executives to work long hours, including evenings and weekends. Informal meetings with clients, for example, frequently take place after normal business hours. In addition, some travel may be required when clients are based in other cities or states or when account executives must attend industry conferences.

Advertising agencies are usually highly charged with energy and are both physically and psychologically exciting places to work. The account executive works with others as a team in a creative environment where a lot of ideas are exchanged among colleagues.

As deadlines are critical in advertising, it is important that account executives possess the ability to handle pressure and stress effectively. Patience and flexibility are also essential, as are organization and time management skills.

Advertising Account Executives require extensive research before they can create an advertising campaign that meets the needs and objectives of the client. Typically, the initial step is to determine a target audience based on information provided by the client and the agency's market research team. Once a target audience has been identified, account executives start developing the overall creative concept that will be used to promote the item. However, before they can do so, they must thoroughly understand the company's product.
