Unions and Associations
Political columnists and writers may obtain union representation from the National Writers Union and the NewsGuild-Communication Workers of America. The American Society of Journalists and Authors offers a mentoring program for freelance writers. It provides advocacy for freelancers' interests, specifically protecting their right to control and profit from uses of their work. Other useful organizations are the National Association of Broadcasters, Society of Professional Journalists, and the News Leaders Association.
