Advancement Prospects
Designers and engineers advance by receiving pay raises and bonuses and access to better fringe benefits. Those who demonstrate leadership and project management ability are sometimes promoted to the positions of lead engineer or lead designer or to higher-level jobs such as project or department manager or vice-president of engineering or design. Some highly skilled and experienced engineers and designers launch their own consulting firms, while others teach at the high school or college levels.
