The Department of Labor does not provide data on theater managers but predicts a decline in performances in small and medium-sized theaters due to fundraising challenges through 2029. For the immediate future, at least 2020 into 2021, all theaters are dealing with difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Many theaters have either closed or are conducting performances outdoors with limited audiences or posting performances online. Post pandemic, there will be more employment opportunities for theater managers when theaters are operating fully again. Individuals with prior work experience in theaters and knowledge of venue management will have the advantage in the job market.
