Unions and Associations

Veterinarians do not typically belong to unions, but there are many professional associations at the national, state, and local levels that represent their interests. The American Veterinary Medical Association is the leading professional organizations for veterinarians. It provides career information, job listings, publications, educational conferences, and other resources. There are also many other specialized associations for veterinarians, including the American Animal Hospital Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians, American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges accredits veterinary training programs. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is a federal agency that offers employment opportunities for veterinarians.
